Setting up a machine correctly takes the same five minutes every time — unless you have a reference.

Router bit height, dado blade depth, fence-to-blade distance, table saw blade height for a rabbet: every one of these requires a reference you measure against. Setup blocks give you that reference — pre-ground to exact, certified dimensions — so you stop guessing, stop making test cuts, and stop wasting material finding the right setting.

What's in the set

14 precision-ground aluminum blocks covering the most common woodworking setup dimensions. Stack them in combination to reach dimensions the individual blocks don't cover directly. Key blocks include common router bit heights, dado widths, and blade height references for standard joinery operations.

  • Stackable — combine multiple blocks to reach intermediate measurements without a separate gauge
  • Flat reference faces — ground square on all six faces so any face is a valid reference, any orientation works
  • Labeled dimensions — engraved markings on every block; no guessing which one you're holding
  • Storage case included — keeps the set together and the reference faces protected from shop wear

How it's built

  • CNC-machined aluminum alloy — dimensionally stable, won't absorb moisture or expand seasonally the way wood blocks do
  • Ground to tolerance — reference faces are flat enough to set tool height directly without a test cut to confirm
  • Anodized finish — protects the surface from shop oils and corrosion that would alter the reference dimension over time

Who it's for

Any woodworker who sets up a router table, table saw, or dado stack more than occasionally. Setup blocks eliminate the test-cut-adjust-test-cut loop that wastes stock and time at the start of every session. Especially useful for recurring setups — if you make the same joint regularly, dial it in once with the blocks and it's repeatable from then on.

Dial it in once. Every setup from memory — not from a test cut.

How is Turstein different from tools at a hardware store? +

Every Turstein tool is built to a specific tolerance and verified before it ships. We design for one problem solved precisely — not a general-purpose compromise. If it doesn't meet the spec we publish, it doesn't leave the warehouse.
