What's in the kit
- Honing guide — holds the chisel at a fixed bevel angle through the entire sharpening stroke; eliminates the rocking motion that rounds the bevel on freehand sharpening
- Angle registration block — sets the chisel projection in the honing guide for the most common bevel angles (25°, 30°, and 35°) without guessing
- Diamond sharpening plates (coarse, medium, fine) — remove metal quickly at coarse, refine the bevel at medium, and build a polish at fine; no water, no oil, no soaking required
- Strop and honing compound — final step; realigns the edge after polishing for the level of sharpness that cuts cleanly on the first pass
- Flatness reference plate — lapping plate for flattening the back of a chisel before sharpening the bevel; a necessary step once, and for any chisel that's been improperly sharpened
How it works
Set the chisel projection in the honing guide using the angle block. Work through the plates from coarse to fine, maintaining consistent pressure on the forward stroke. Finish on the strop. Total time for a maintenance sharpen on an already-flat chisel: under five minutes.
