Not sure which angle to use? Start here:

20°: Fine paring chisels
25°: Most chisels and plane blades
30°: Chisels you hit with a mallet
35°: Mortise chisels, heavy work

How do I find the right angle?

Slide the blade into the slots on the gauge until one fits the slanted edge. That number is your angle. If you're not sure, use 25°. It works for most chisels and plane blades.

Which blades does it fit?

Flat chisels and plane blades from 1/8" to 2.8" wide. Not skew chisels, gouges, carving tools, curved Japanese chisels or knives.

Which side goes down on the stone?

The slanted side (the bevel) faces down, so it lies flat on the stone.

The blade moves or sits crooked. What do I do?

Put the blade in the middle of the clamp and tighten both knobs a little at a time, so it stays straight. Check them again after the first few strokes.

Do I need to soak the stones?

Not the diamond plate. Just add a little water. The 3000/8000 stone in the Pro Kit needs about 10 minutes in water before use.

Can I use my own stones?

Yes. It works on any flat stone, diamond plate, or sandpaper on a flat surface.

What if my angle is between two numbers?

Pick the closest one. The first sharpening adjusts the edge a little. After that, it's the same every time.

What does the warranty cover?

If it breaks in normal use, ever, we replace it. You can also send it back within 60 days for a full refund.
