Most marking mistakes aren't about skill. They're about setup.

You measure once, mark it, move the ruler, measure again — and by the third cut something has drifted. Not because you weren't careful. Because a plain ruler gives you no way to lock the reference and hold it through a series of marks.

The Woodworking Ruler Set solves that. Three precision rulers — 6", 8", and 12" — each with a sliding stop block that clamps to the ruler body and holds its position through every mark in the sequence. Set the stop once, run it along your workpiece edge, and every mark lands in exactly the same spot. Repeatable without re-measuring.

What's in the set

  • 6" ruler — close-quarters work: drawer faces, small frames, hardware layout, hinge placement
  • 8" ruler — the workhorse length for most bench layout tasks, shelf pin spacing, mortise layout
  • 12" ruler — wider panels, long-grain marks, full cabinet side layout without extending past the piece
  • Sliding stop block on each ruler — glides the full length of the ruler body, tightens with a thumb screw, holds its position under repeated use without creeping

How it reads

  • Laser-etched dual-scale — inches on one face, millimeters on the other
  • Graduations are cut into the metal, not printed — they don't rub off, fade, or blur after years of shop use
  • Zero starts at the stop block face, so you're measuring from the reference edge directly, not from the end of a ruler you have to offset

How it's built

  • CNC-machined aluminum alloy body — no flex along the length, no play in the stop block channel
  • Hard-anodized finish — handles shop oils, water, sawdust, and daily handling without corroding or losing its surface
  • Slim profile — slides into a tool belt loop, apron pocket, or tool bag without bulk
  • Three lengths in one kit — no separate purchases, no hunting for the right size mid-project

Who it's for

Woodworkers who do any kind of repeat layout work — furniture makers, cabinet builders, finish carpenters, and serious hobbyists who've gotten tired of re-measuring the same distance five times across a project. Also useful for architects, drafters, and anyone doing precise manual marking in the field or on the bench.

Three lengths. One stop block system. Every mark where you meant it.

How is Turstein different from tools at a hardware store? +

Every Turstein tool is built to a specific tolerance and verified before it ships. We design for one problem solved precisely — not a general-purpose compromise. If it doesn't meet the spec we publish, it doesn't leave the warehouse.
